The Bermudian magazine is always proud to celebrate local businesses that go the extra mile to deliver quality products and services to their local clientele. In this our 13th year our judges heaped praise on 46 local companies, including long-serving businesses like A.F. Smith and Coldwell Banker Bermuda Realty alongside newcomers like Mediaville and Bermuda EZ Self Storage. Other winners include some unsung heroes like Omari Dill who seeks to educate the community about sustainable agriculture and the pilot boat crew who rescue sailors in trouble and guide ships safely through our delicate channels.
The Bermudian is extremely grateful to our judges who gave their significant time, energy and expertise to research and poll in each of these 44 categories before coming together to decide the winners. Without their dedication these awards would not be possible:
- Allison Tucker, Conference Services & Catering Manager, Fairmont Southampton
- Geoffrey Faiella, Legal Counsel, Clarien Bank Limited
- Danielle Ford, Trust Administrator, Lombard Odier (Bermuda) Limited
- Mandy Shailer, GIS Mapping Analyst, Department of Conservation Services
- Duncan Frith, Assistant Underwriter, Oil Casualty Insurance, Ltd.
We are proud to acknowledge the following businesses and business people and we hope you support them in equal measure.

With its perfect location just outside of town, spacious lobby area, a 148-seat high-tech Tradwinds Theatre, beautiful meeting rooms and catering from Harbourfront Restaurant, our judges chose the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute as the best large off-site meeting facility. Most of us can restart a crashed computer and update our software—and some of us can even figure out how to create a basic website all on our own. However, when our business calls for more sophisticated IT services like mobile apps, software and website development, our judges recommend calling the experienced and talented team at Fireminds Ltd. “Michael Branco and his IT support team are very responsive, well-trained and knowledgeable,” stated one of the judges. Their technology services also include acting as a virtual chief technology officer, on- and off-site IT support, and server and firewall administration. • Sofia House, 3rd Floor, 48 Church Street, Hamilton. Thanks to the Devil’s Isle Coffee Company (and Buzz!) you can now finally get a delicious cup of locally-brewed coffee at a gas station on your way to work! Even the admitted “coffee snobs” amongst the judges agreed that the quality of the 100% Arabica brew is excellent and all were impressed that the organic and Fair Trade beans are hand-roasted, blended and packaged right here in Bermuda. • www.coffee.devilsislecoffee.bm

World Rugby Classic
Feeling a bit of déjà vu reading this? You should because the Rugby Classic is a repeat winner of this category. And why, you may ask, are they so deserving of win after win? Well, because every year 25 corporate clients invite over 6,000 of their closest clients to the Hospitality Village to get a first-hand view of the exciting rugby action while dining on gourmet food and sipping on dark n’ stormies. What could be more hospitable than that? • Tel: 295-6574, www.worldrugby.bm

Recreational Activity to Entertain Clients
Love watching the Amazing Race as much as we do? Well, the thrill of a well-planned scavenger hunt (think retrieving clues from the top of Gibbs Hill Lighthouse or from inside a cannon at Commissioners House) can be a fun and informative way to entertain your overseas clients the next time they are in Bermuda for a business meeting. Our judges chose to award the category to the concept of scavenger hunts in general but recommend checking out Bermuda Gifts & Ideas and Select Sites Group if you are looking for someone to plan one for you.

Corporate Staff Outing
Pilot Boat Crew
They get very little recognition but they are the ones who delicately and deftly navigate the channels as they pilot the enormous cruise ships into the wharf at Dockyard, guide the containerships carefully into the docks in Hamilton. and even risk their lives to help other boats in distress. The branch pilots and crew on the boats that respond to marine emergencies and pilot the ships in order to keep our reefs safe are unsung heroes in our books. Without them we’d have fewer tourists and no container loads of essential goods to keep the island going. • 19 Fort George Hill, St. George's. Tel: 297-1010
Bermuda EZ Self Storage
Bermuda Engineering (BE Solar)
Agronomy is engineering for agriculture, and Bermuda’s own agronomist Omari Dill is on a mission to educate Bermudians about the importance of sustainable agriculture via his two businesses—Unity Maintenance and Utopia. Dill specialises in edible landscapes and consults with organisations such as Kaleidoscope Arts Foundation to integrate agriculture into their curriculum and Windreach where he does horticultural therapy. With Greenrock, Dill helped to set up their Healthy Harvest programme and currently works along with them on the Eco-School Project. • Unity Maintenance: 31 Aubrey Rd., Hamilton. Tel: 334-7532
Company Community/Charity Project
Argus Walk the Walk with The Centre on Philanthropy 5K
Our judges chose to award the Argus Walk the Walk annual 5K as the best charity project this year because of how many charities actually benefit from the popular event. In 2015, almost $35,000 was raised for 125 local charities. All benefit as participants get to choose the charities they want their fundraising dollars to support, while charities get the opportunity to expand their network of supporters while raising awareness of their cause. A win-win for all! • Tel: 236-7706, www.centreonphilanthropy.org/pages/walk-the-walk
Best Company to Work For
Clever Customer Incentive Programme
Rubis Fuel for Life
Fueling up is a necessity, not a luxury, so anytime a gas station can get us excited by filling up the tank you know their programme is a success. Rubis’s Fuel for Life promotion that ran from mid-June to mid-August 2015 offered an entry into a draw each time a customer spent $45 or more at any of their stations for the chance to win a grand prize of “Fuel for Life” valued at $112,500! There were also weekly prize winners who enjoyed free fuel for one, two or three months. We certainly hope they do this one again! • www.rubis-bermuda.com
