Decadence and Delicate Jewellery, Handmade by Robyn Bardgett

Robyn Bardgett has found a way to make a business through two of her favourite things: cupcakes and jewellery! She joined forces with a friend to host jewellery parties where she also serves homemade cupcakes. “Nothing goes better than beautiful jewellery and delicious cupcakes,” she shared and I can just image the sparkle in her eye when she spoke those words! Robyn is inspired by colour and believes that one colour can create a range of emotions.

Though she applauds her mother’s cooking and baking, Ms. Bardgett admits that she didn’t spend much time in the kitchen with her. Robyn taught herself how to bake years later and is proud to claim that as her biggest accomplishment. She shared, “Baking and seeing the reaction that people get from eating something that I’ve made is pretty humbling.” Her advice to young business students is to “forge their own path.” She explained, “No one should be embarrassed or feel like less of a person because they like to work with their hands all day and I think we need to do a better job at fostering creativity and the arts on the island. There’s always a niche to be filled on the island with a new business.” As a matter of fact, if Robyn could start her career over, she would have focused more on art in school and university. She loves to write but would love to have more time to study jewellery design. Robyn began making jewellery while in university and would replicate items she saw in shops. The same with baking, she would create her version of cakes she saw. As a matter of fact, resourceful Robyn admits to trying to find opportunities to make things rather than buying them. Oh, and for the record, Robyn doesn’t only make cupcakes; her latest passion is pies and she loves working with pastry.

Robyn Bardgett hopes to be remembered as an ambassador, encouraging young people to follow their creativity. Though they may not choose an art-related career, it is a great pastime. She encourages everyone to continue learning, even after completing school.
