Debut in Dockyard
With everything freshly baked and brewed, The Dockyard Pastry Shop is way beyond "coffee and a doughnut."         It's no secret that Dockyard has recently experienced a renaissance of sorts. Mega cruise ships have disembarked thousands of tourists at the historical venue, generating an influx of cash and new store openings, a rarity today as Bermuda experiences difficult economic times. Joerg Rudolf took advantage of this isolated economic boomlet and opened the doors to The Dockyard Pastry Shop in August 2011, a dream two years in the making. Having lived in Bermuda for the past 24 years, Rudolf has a firm understanding of Bermuda's market. He believes Bermudians have grown more aware of the importance of purchasing from bakeries that only use high-quality ingredients, a ...

When Style Meets Ingenuity: Scarves by Rene Hill
As a child, René enjoyed crocheting but like with many childhood hobbies, life became busy and she put down her crochet needles for many years. René took to crocheting scarves again for close family and friends, which led to orders and an exciting part-time money making opportunity. Recently, René decided it was time to hire assistance with production and chose fair trade producers to help with the increased demand. René is now part owner of Emily’s Fair Trade Company Ltd. with her father, Cedar artisan, Milton Hill Sr. and daughter, Reneeka Hill.                   Describe your crocheted scarves. "Some are made out of 100% baby alpaca, merino wool and kid mohair blend, alpine yarn, and a few items are made out of acrylic. The scarves have a unique style of croc...

Decadence and Delicate Jewellery, Handmade by Robyn Bardgett
Robyn Bardgett has found a way to make a business through two of her favourite things: cupcakes and jewellery! She joined forces with a friend to host jewellery parties where she also serves homemade cupcakes. “Nothing goes better than beautiful jewellery and delicious cupcakes,” she shared and I can just image the sparkle in her eye when she spoke those words! Robyn is inspired by colour and believes that one colour can create a range of emotions.         Though she applauds her mother’s cooking and baking, Ms. Bardgett admits that she didn’t spend much time in the kitchen with her. Robyn taught herself how to bake years later and is proud to claim that as her biggest accomplishment. She shared, “Baking and seeing the reaction that people get from eating...

Walking Art by Lynn Wahl
Over the past five years, Lynn Wahl has handcrafted over 150 of her highly custom, highly coveted handbags, or should we say handboxes? What makes Lynn's designs so special and so custom is the fact that they are fashioned from antique wooden cigar boxes. Each piece is truly a unique work of art, with all details from the handles to the unique appliqués handcrafted by Lynn.   The popularity of her handbags, which started as craft project with her daughter, has been simply astonishing. Perhaps their success lies in their ability to stir up "an emotional reaction", Lynn muses. Their appearance at a party will certainly not be missed and you can count on them as a conversation piece. Lynn has been wearing her own handbags for years and says she gets more compliments on them  than on ...
