Who are you and what do you do?
I was born in Austria on August 11, 1953. As a young child I was affectionately nicknamed “Stemsi”—hence the brand name “StemsiArt”.
Inspired by the awesome blues and greens of Bermuda’s waters, I developed a true love for working with colours. This led me to expand my repertoire by formulating an intricate combination of high quality resin, special coloured paint and sometimes plaster.
The process is not easy to control but the outcome is extremely satisfying as I monitor the originality and true intensity of each piece. Harmonized with the appropriate lighting it becomes almost magical.
What is your strongest memory of your childhood?
I remember being in the hospital for a few days when I was about 9. My parents brought me pencils and an art pad. My passion for art began at that time and has grown ever since.
What jobs do you do other than being an artist?
I am the owner of a concrete resurfacing company named Elite Crete Bermuda. Basically we totally transform unattractive indoor and outdoor concrete flooring. My clients have the freedom to choose the colour and style that they prefer and Elite Crete Bermuda can execute their preference.
What do you like about your artwork?
I enjoy completing a creation and seeing it come alive under the appropriate lighting and get great satisfaction in knowing that each piece is one-of-a-kind original and cannot be duplicated. I delight in sharing my clients’ pleasure at finding the right piece which inspires them and feel a mixture of pride and humbleness when my work is described by a seasoned art critic as having “voluminous intensity” and “generating an essence that borders on spiritual energy”. I appreciate that art evokes passion and emotions in people and that through my work I have the opportunity to meet interesting individuals from all walks of life.
Where can people see your work?
StemsiArt is exhibited at Barracuda Grill, one of Bermuda’s most popular restaurants located on Burnaby Street in Hamilton. In addition, I have over 20 pieces adorning the walls at Smiles Inc. a Dental Office located on Dundonald Street in Hamilton. Smiles Inc welcomes interested parties to visit during office hours. Anyone interested in purchasing the pieces on display, want additional information or see other items in my collection may contact me by e-mail at stemsiart@yahoo.com.
If someone wants to purchase or commission you how can they best contact you?
I can be contacted by e-mail at stemsiart@yahoo.com. I encourage interested parties to visit my website www.stemsiart.com for additional information.
I welcome the opportunity to create custom pieces of all sizes. My preference is to create larger pieces. I have sold pieces as large as 36in x 80in. I usually visit the client’s home and decide with them what exactly would look best in terms of size, colour, etc.
