OKTOBERFEST IN BERMUDA

ROUND THE SOUND SWIM

Since its inception the Round the Sound Swim has raised over $300,000 for local Bermuda charities, as well as providing a great reason to swim in Bermuda. BERMUDA KENNEL CLUB DOG SHOW

NIKE GOLF PGA TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP OF CANADA

After a memorable inaugural year, the Nike Golf PGA Championship of Canada returns to Bermuda this October. Held at the Mid Ocean Golf Club, the championship consists of professional Canadian golfing pairs who play in different team formats every day. Head down to Mid Ocean and watch some great professional golf this weekend!

HALLOWEEN

This Halloween, take part in Bermuda’s spookiest tour at the UNESCO World Heritage site St. George’s! Join Haunted History in Ye Olde Ghost Towne for a night of ghost-filled, spooktacular fun starting at 8:30 p.m. Haunted History will be hosting a special tour on October 31st, as well as adding a few extra tours in the week leading up to Halloween.

CRUISE SHIP SEASON ENDS

Cruise ship season officially comes to a close late in the fall with only six ships visiting the island the entire month of November and none docking in Hamilton. Not only do you get your view of Hamilton Harbour back, but late fall is the perfect time to explore Dockyard and St. George’s while they aren’t crowded with visitors!

DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME ENDS

Fall back! Ever wonder why you get an extra hour of sleep sometime in the fall and lose an hour in the spring? Daylight saving was first implemented by the Germans during the First World War in an attempt to save fuel by minimising the use of artificial lighting. While many people believe it’s ridiculous that we still observe daylight saving, you can say danke schoen to Germany for your extra hour of sleep today.

REMEMBRANCE DAY

Every year at the eleventh  hour on the eleventh day of the eleventh month, Remembrance Day pays tribute to the Bermudians who fought and fell during the First World War and marks the signing of the armistice after four years of fighting on the European battlefields. The solemn public holiday is marked with a moment of silence and the laying of poppy wreaths at the National War Memorial and Cenotaph.

AMERICAN THANKSGIVING

While Bermuda is definitely British at heart, there’s no doub
t that our closest neighbours to the west have influenced life on our island immensely. You don’t even have to go all out and cook a huge Thanksgiving dinner to celebrate; the day is all about giving thanks. Spend the evening with your family and list the things for which you’re truly grateful. Of course, you can still indulge in the traditional feast if you’re really feeling left out of the festivities!

GOSLING’S INVITATIONAL GOLF TOURNAMENT

The annual week-long Gosling’s Invitational Golf Tournament takes place at the Belmont Hills golf course in Warwick this November. Professional and amateur players alike compete for large cash prizes in an event that’s described as being “mostly about great golf, but also some great fun at other venues.” With a welcome cocktail party, a hole-in-one reward and a Dark n’ Stormy social halfway through the week’s events, the Gosling’s Invitational Golf Tournament is sure to be exactly what its name suggests: a week filled with rum and golf.

HURRICANE SEASON ENDS

While hurricane activity peaks in late summer and early fall, the season officially comes to a close at the end of November. Although it isn’t impossible to have a tropical storm or depression outside of what’s designated as hurricane season, the difference in the air and sea surface temperatures is much less than in the months between June and November, meaning storms are much less likely to form over the North Atlantic during this time.
