Most of us are feeling the blows from the copious amounts of partying that is synonymous with the Cup Match holiday. The excessive beaching, boating and cocktail-drinking wears us down after the four-day celebration, leaving us haggard and hanging by a thread. We’ve put together a list of the post-Cup Match essentials to getting back up on your feet and on the road to recovery. And that’s not all, we’re also dishing on where to go and who to trust when it comes to Cup Match recuperation, as per the 2015 Best of Bermuda Awards.

1. CUP OF JAVA

For some, a good cup of coffee is essential to productivity and day-to-day functionality in general. Devil’s Isle Cafe salutes these tireless caffeine warriors by offering a wide selection of fresh, locally roasted coffee products for palettes of all types at their new location on Burnaby Street. With an impressive eight blends to choose from, nothing but the finest 100 per cent Arabica beans are used to produce each variety, and when you take that aromatic first sip, you’ll see just what a difference it makes.

2. FRESH LOCAL FISH

Fresh fish is so sought after in Bermuda that most restaurants offer some form of it, if even simply a catch of the day. Barracuda Grill stands out amongst the rest for having a regular supply of the finest set-menu seafood and daily fish specials on the entire island. Whether you’re craving fresh rockfish, snapper, mahi mahi or whatever else they happen to bring in on a given day, you’ll never be let down by your meal, and will always know that the fish got from the ocean to your plate the fastest way possible.

3. TASTY TAKE OUT

Who feels like cooking after Cup Match? No one! That’s where House of India comes in with its friendly and speedy takeout service. Call in, place your order, wait hungrily, then zip into North Hamilton to grab some of the most delicious and fairly priced Indian food you’ll find anywhere in Bermuda. Don’t feel bad—you can always cook tomorrow night.

4. A STIFF DRINK
The award for Bermuda’s best bartender is given only to the most boisterous, friendly, knowledgeable and attentive mixologist on the island. One thing’s for sure: this year’s winner, Ryan Gibbons at Barracuda Grill, can mix a mean cocktail. Despite the endless drinking during the Cup Match holiday, one more won’t hurt.

5. GOOD READ
Take refuge from Cup Match with a good book from the Bermuda Bookstore, winner of best bookstore every year since 2005. With wooden floors, mix-matched shelves laden with books and a quirky staff, the cozy environment lends itself to a pleasant and relaxing experience not often found in the twenty-first century.

6. PHARMACEUTICALS

With sunburns, bug bites, bruises and body aches, People’s Pharmacy should have been your first-stop this Monday morning. If it wasn’t, it’s not too late. Look to their helpful pharmacists to give you the best advice for treating your Cup Match battle wounds.

7. BOAT REPAIR
It’s no secret that boats can endure their fair share of bumps and scratches over the Cup Match weekend, especially after Non-Mariners. If your boat is in need of a little TLC, look to John Powell at Powell’s Marine to take care of it for you.

8. WELLNESS FOR BODY AND MIND
In today’s world, exercise and a healthy diet are only the tip of the wellness iceberg. To achieve the ultimate healthy body post-Cup Match, one must take care of the spirit as well, which can be accomplished through alternative medicine and exercise at Lotus. Indulge in Pilates, yoga and homeopathy and achieve the sense of self you lost over the four-day holiday.

9. SPA DAY
Willow Stream is Bermuda’s answer to chaos. Take care of your battered body with a massage overlooking the South Shore and forget about the craze of Cup Match for good.

10. A NEW PAIR OF SHADES

There’s probably a few hundred (or thousand) pairs of shades at the bottom of Mangrove Bay thanks to the Non-Mariners race. If you’re one of the unlucky souls who dropped their specs into the depths, take refuge at Sunglass & Watch Stop and buy yourself a new pair of sunnies  that will (hopefully) last you the remaining summer months.
