To me, there is nothing better than a wholesome, filling and nutritious green smoothie. I love the feeling of feeding my body with something that I know is beneficial and healing. Just by looking at a green smoothie you can tell that it’s probably going to do some good. However, sometimes the green colour can be masking a smoothie filled with mostly fruit, coconut water and just a bit of spinach. Although not totally unhealthy and seemingly delicious, it could be better!
This is one (of many) of my favourite green smoothie recipes. It hits all the right notes: protein, fiber, fat and greens, without calling for a million obscure and expensive ingredients. In fact, you probably have majority of them in your kitchen already!
With all the ingredients necessary to sustain your energy for a few hours, this smoothie is a great meal or snack. It also serves as a great base if you would like to swap a few things like kale for the spinach or mango instead of blueberries. Just as long as you are keeping to the main skeleton of the recipe – it should keep you satisfied and happy!
Ingredients (serves 1):
1 cup milk (of your choice; I used cashew milk)
1 cup spinach
1/3 cup frozen blueberries
1 tbsp. nut butter (of your choice; I used almond butter)
1 scoop protein powder (of your choice; I used hemp protein)
1 tbsp. ground chia seeds
Directions:
1. In a blender, blend the milk, spinach and blueberries together first for 1-2 minutes.
2. Add the nut butter, protein powder and ground chia seeds next. This helps prevent the nut butter and powders from getting stuck together on the sides of the blender. Blend until well combined or until you’ve reached your desired consistency.
Enjoy!
