A traditional favourite baked to perfection, Mrs. Harvey’s Johnny Bread offers a deliciously satisfying taste of wholesome heritage.

Recipe by Mrs. Edith Harvey, taken from Bermuda’s Best Recipes 13th edition printed in 1986

Ingredients:
1/4 cup sugar
1 1/2 cup flour
butter, size of an egg
1 egg
1/2 cup milk
1/4 tsp salt

Directions:
Mix dry ingredients, and then add beaten eggs and milk. Roll out on pastry board and bake on griddle iron.

Bermuda’s Best Recipes was first published with 1000 copies in 1934. A compilation of contributed recipes from Bermudian women, the legendary cookbook continued to be published regularly for many years and in 1986, the 13th edition printed a whopping 15,000 copies. The proceeds went to Warwick Parish to fund many charitable initiatives.
