Mrs. Cooper’s casserole recipe is sure to keep you warm and perky on a cold winter day.

6 medium-sized potatoes
3 medium-sized apples
2 tbsp butter
1/2 cup sugar
1 cup water
Boil and drain sweet potatoes, cut in slices. Pare and slice apples. Place in greased casserole in alternate layers, sprinkling each layer of apple with sugar, and potatoes with butter. Add water and cook in slow oven until brown.
Bermuda’s Best Recipes was first published with 1000 copies in 1934. A compilation of contributed recipes from Bermudian women, the legendary cookbook continued to be published regularly for many years and in 1986, the 13th edition printed a whopping 15,000 copies. The proceeds went to Warwick Parish to fund many charitable initiatives.
