In honour of the 51st Newport to Bermuda race, we’re mixing up Newport Snaps, an unclassic take on a gin sour. Featuring pink gin (blended with bitters and concocted by the Royal Navy to combat seasickness) and a Pinot Noir float, a Newport Snap could have you feeling three sheets to the wind, but traditionally, that’s what this weekend’s all about, right?
Ingredients:
2 ounces pink gin, preferably Rogue
3/4 ounce Simple Syrup
3/4 ounce fresh lemon juice
Ice
1/2 ounce Pinot Noir or other light, fruity red wine
Method:
In a cocktail shaker, combine the gin, Simple Syrup and lemon juice.
Fill the shaker with ice and shake well.
Strain into a chilled ice-filled rocks glass and float the wine on top, slowly pouring it over the back of a bar spoon near the drink’s surface.
