The colder days are upon us, and the mornings just got a little more magical. There is something about waking up to a chill in the air that is both inspiring and grounding. Starting the day with a warm drink to balance the cool air is a routine most people follow first thing in the morning. I absolutely love the smell of coffee and the routine of it, but I love the variety of different morning lattes and tea depending on the day.

If you came here looking for coffee, I hate to let you down, but I have something so much better that will change your world.  A golden latte is a delicious alternative to your normal cup of joe. This delicious warm drink doesn’t contain caffeine, but comes with a host of health benefits that will have you feeling your best, thanks to the incredible Golden Paste.

Golden paste is a handcrafted, gently cooked blend of organic ground turmeric root, coconut oil and black pepper. Turmeric is a potent anti- inflammatory spice that is assimilated in the body much more effectively once cooked and also when in the presence of good fats and piperine (an active component in black pepper.) You can cook with it or add it to smoothies or yoghurt (we suggest 1/2 – 1 tsp per adult). As with all concentrated forms of spices and herbs, if you have a medical condition and/or take any medication, please check with your physician for suitability of use.

Golden Paste is available at Devil’s Isle or can be made and stored at home.

Ingredients:

1 1/4 cup nut milk (coconut, hemp, almond, brown rice, cashew)
1 1/2 tsp. coconut oil or coconut butter
1 tsp. Golden Paste OR ¼ tsp. coconut oil, ½ tsp. turmeric, pinch of black pepper
1/2 tsp. raw honey or maple syrup (or a drop of stevia)
A pinch each of sea salt, vanilla and cinnamon

Directions:

Add all of the above ingredients into a small sauce pan and slowly bring to a simmer. Turn off and blend in an upright blender. If you do not have an upright blender, try a hand blender or hand held foam blender. A Nutribullet could work but I would be VERY careful about the heat expanding – avoid using this if you can.

Adjust spices and sweeteners to your liking and make this a part of your feel-good morning routine.
