When architectural firm Benevides & Associates built this new home in 2014, their young, modern clients asked them to carry on with the overall room design, resulting in the firm’s most favourite room to date. Starting with a spacious open-plan design incorporating a kitchen, living area and dining space, Benevides found some large, white porcelain tiles which gave the room a clean, contemporary feel. They then added sleek mid-century modern furniture and vibrant curtains to complete the mod look.
“The clean lines are what make the room so special,” said Georgia Benevides. “It is very simple but effective.”
For added interest, the firm designed a cove ceiling and a limestone fireplace mantle which “gives a nice focal point for the room.” A piece of the clients’ contemporary art collection was given pride of place over the fireplace. With a predominately white base to work from, pops of colour—from teal to navy blue and lime green—accent the space making it both fun and functional.
“The clients wanted a white room with bold colour,” said Benevides. “It is clean and bright and they love it!”
