While you might say Bermuda is inherently romantic, you probably want to go the extra mile if you’re planning to pop the question to your partner. Whether you’re looking for someplace secluded, quintessentially Bermudian or just Instagram-worthy, here are some ideas for perfect proposal spots.
Unfinished Church
Located within UNESCO World Heritage Site, St. George’s, The Unfinished Church has been a centrepiece of gothic architecture and visitor curiosity for many years. The interior of the church is not open to the public, but you can still walk around the outside and peer through the empty stone archways that should have once housed stained glass windows. This hauntingly beautiful structure makes for a unique and aesthetic location to ask your mate to marry you. It’s won “Best Place to Propose” in the Best of Bermuda Awards multiple times for a reason!
Jobson’s Cove
A proposal on any of our beautiful beaches would certainly do the job, but a quiet cove like Jobson’s makes for an especially picturesque setting. Usually much less busy than the larger beaches, Jobson’s Cove is a tiny bay surrounded by impressive cliff faces. If you time it right, the only other creatures there might just be parrotfish.
Under a Moongate
Moongates can be spotted gracing Bermuda’s public parks, hotel grounds and private homes. Legend says that if newlyweds step through a moongate hand-in-hand, happiness will endure, which is why it’s common to see newlyweds kissing or posing under these intriguing stone passageways. What’s a better place to propose! Moongates perfect for proposing under can be found at the Botanical Gardens and Riddell’s Bay Park, and at various hotels around the island including: Hamilton Princess & Beach Club, Cambridge Beaches, The Reefs and Grotto Bay.
West Whale Bay
Located at the end of the quiet Whale Bay Road, this small park and beach are usually secluded and private, making it a perfect place to pop the question. If you want to propose in the sand, be sure to check the tides ahead of time because this beach all but disappears when it’s not low tide. If the timing doesn’t work out, bring a picnic and bottle of champagne to enjoy from the grassy top of the cliff overlooking the South Shore water for a gorgeous proposal.
On a Sunset Cruise
There’s just something unbelievably romantic about being on the water at sunset. Imagine sharing a toast after proposing to your sweetheart aboard a cocktail cruise or catamaran sail while watching the sun set over the ocean. At the top of the Lighthouse
There are views and there are views, and in Bermuda we are spoilt for choice. If you are prepared to climb the 185 steps to the top of Gibbs Hill Lighthouse however, you will, once you have caught your breath, be able to enjoy a view of virtually the entire island in all its glory. Imagine that as a backdrop to an incredibly memorable proposal.
