Cindy Young, the representative for The Garden Club of Bermuda, won the Gold Medal at Canada Blooms and the Heather Fuller Award for best international design overall.
Canada Blooms 2016 is currently being held in Toronto, in conjunction with the Canadian Home Show, at the Enercare Building down on the lakeshore of Lake Ontario.
The section of floral design is hosted by The Garden Club of Ontario. The title for the overall show is “Let’s Party” and the title for the International Class in which Bermuda was invited to participate is “Celebrate”. There are 10 international exhibits including Bermuda. The other nine are from Australia, Barbados, France, Ireland, United Kingdom, United States, South Africa and Canada with two entries.
The designs were judged according to the following criteria: conformance with the rules, creativity, originality of the concept and the components and distinction in conditioning of the flowers and foliage.
The staging consisted of a 4 feet x 4 feet space 80” high with a 4” riser base painted a clear pale blue. Cindy’s design consisted of mini yellow Callas, purple and lime green Lisianthus, mini hot pink Gerberas, orange Gloriosa, mini lime green button Chrysanthemums with pink Amaranths hanging down below as well as Ruscus, Galaxy leaves, Camelia leaves and Asparagus Plumosa fern. Steel grass was placed looping in and over the design to create movement and add another texture. Little wire balls in copper, lime green, hot pink and silver added another dimension and interest to the exhibit.
