HSBC and Ignite are presenting an exciting opportunity this summer for budding young entrepreneurs in Bermuda. They will be launching their brand-new Young Adult Entrepreneurial Internship Programme specifically for returning college and university students, as well as for all local young adults between the ages of 18 to 25 years old.
Programme Duration – June 7 – July 23, 2021
Application Deadline – May 21, 2021
Interview Dates – May 25 & 26
Bermuda’s first privately funded business accelerator established in 2019, Ignite is already supporting startups in Bermuda by providing them with physical space, curricula and education, mentoring and access to investors. But after reviewing its current internship activities in Bermuda, Ignite realized Bermuda’s millennial generation has been excluded. As Ignite says, the new programme “will provide deep training and mentorship for its selected young adults to develop the functional, managerial, and leadership skills that differentiate the good from the great entrepreneurs.”
According to Ignite, The Young Adult Internship Initiative, supported by HSBC, “will afford deep insight into the day-to-day activities of early-stage companies and organisations, based on Ignite Bermuda programmes, powered by Entrepreneurial Spark.”
The programme will begin with Ignite’s Cohort 4 at their 2-day Bootcamp, starting 7 June 2021. Young adult interns will receive one-to-one support from their own business enablers, as well as workshops, and partner and mentor support. Expected to commit 12 hours a week to the programme, participants will spend 8 hours a week with a host start-up business or organization, working on specific projects designed by the host. In addition, interns will also gain access to the Ignite Hub to follow their passion by working on their independent projects with the support of Ignite mentors and facilitators.
The remaining four weeks will consist of:
- Workshops run by industry experts and Ignite alumni covering various topics while offering relevant knowledge from the facilitators’ relevant personal experience. Topics may include:
- Entrepreneurial Mindset
- Product Development
- Business Model
- Business Formation
- Marketing and Sales
- Bermuda’s Economic Climate
- Social Entrepreneurship
- Additional topics
- Group ‘check-ins’ and huddles to offer support and foster community among the young adults.
- Time for personal development and growth.
Overall, with HSBC’s support, Ignite will deliver an inclusive young adult internship programme with world-class support and opportunities to engage with the other members of the Ignite community of entrepreneurs.
Entry Requirements and Deadline
As Georgia Rego, Ignite Intern and Co-Project Manager says, “As we are committed to empowering all local young adults to develop their passion for entrepreneurship, there isn’t a requirement for certain levels of academic achievement. However, we ask that applicants are self-motivated, eager to learn and willing to commit to the programme.” Applicants must also be a resident of Bermuda and between 18 to 25 years old.
