The International Regional Magazine Association (IRMA) announces its 40th annual magazine awards highlighting accomplishments in editorial, photography, art direction, design and overall publication.

The Bermudian Magazine won three awards at the 40th annual International Regional Magazine Association (IRMA) awards presentation.

IRMA members include state, province, and regional publications from across the United States and Canada. The awards were granted for work published in 2019, and judged by independent panels of experts. Publisher and editor, Tina Stevenson accepted the awards on behalf of the magazine.

“We are thrilled to win three awards at this year’s IRMA (virtual) Conference, especially considering we were up against some amazing regional magazines across the USA and Canada. It is a testament to the hard work and great talent of our small but mighty team, both in-house and freelance.”

 

The Bermudian’s 2020 awards in the 35,000 or less Annual Print Run (APR) division include:

Nature and Environment Feature
Silver – For the Love of Lobsters by Peter Backenberg, Fall 2019 issue.
The judge’s commented, “Comprehensive and informative.”

Art and Culture Feature
Award of Merit – A Walk on the Railway Trail by Elizabeth Jones, Spring 2019 issue.
The judge’s commented, “Nice interweaving of histories while letting us tag along on this journey.”

The Art Direction of a Single Story
Award of Merit – How Bermy Are You? by Linda Weinraub, Spring 2020 issue.
The judge’s commented, “Fun, fun, FUN! Love the watercolor elements and graphics and how they’re used throughout.”

To evaluate the achievements of member magazines, IRMA annually selects a panel of industry experts from outside IRMA who choose winners from the pool of submitted entries. The various award categories include editorial, design, and photography. Example categories include Reader Service Article, Photo Series, Art Direction of a Single Story and Magazine of the Year.
