Whether your teen is artistically inclined or simply appreciates the creativity of a hands-on project, we’ve got some great ways for you to connect and spend time together.

Palmetto Weaving at Carter House

If you’re looking for something really unique to do with your creative teen, consider a visit to the historic Carter House for a demonstration in the art of our ancestors, palmetto weaving. St Davids natives Ronnie Chameau and Janet Debraga illustrate the art of weaving and dollmaking, an important artistic skill and cultural tradition in St Davids. Palmetto weaving is a product of the “no waste” philosophy and the importance of living in harmony with nature, a strong belief of Native Americans. The islanders believed that “nature brings body and soul together”. Contact Carter House at 293-5960 for more information.

Pottery Painting

Let your creative juices flow with a night of pottery painting right in your own home! Barbara Wade of Endless Creations Pottery offers a mobile pottery-painting service, with all supplies brought right to you, or a venue of your choosing. All you need is a minimum of five participants, so get the whole family involved!

Hamilton Street Art Tour

The City of Hamilton’s VIVID Public Art Initiative has led to local art installations on almost every street in town. Its aim is to connect visitors and the local community to Bermuda art and culture, and it’s a great way to connect with your own teen, too. You can download a map at CityofHamilton.bm or collect from City Hall and spend a day searching for almost 25 pieces of artwork around the city. Each piece of art has its own QR code you can scan to learn more about it.

Intergenerational Art Space at Masterworks

For a wonderful, low-pressure way to connect with your artistic teen, consider joining an art workshop at Masterworks, such as their Intergenerational Art Space. This program is described as “a vibrant and inclusive haven where individuals of all ages can come together to unleash their creativity and connect across generations.” Masterworks offers a variety of art classes, and this is only one of them! Visit masterworksbermuda.org for more information.
