A visit to the former capital of Bermuda, St George’s, can feel like traveling to another world. This historic area is chock full of interesting places for all ages. Here is one sample itinerary for how to spend a day out East with your family.

Breakfast

Located on York Street on the way into the Town of St George is local favourite, Temptations Café. Here you’ll find delicious choices for hot breakfasts as well as cakes, cookies, muffins, coffee, and tea. Enjoy your treats on the patio if it’s a nice day!

Morning Activity

After breakfast you’ll have the energy to climb the steps of nearby St. Peter’s Church, the oldest Anglican church outside the British Isles. Don’t forget to explore the historic churchyard as well. The church and its churchyard are a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the key sites in Bermuda’s African Diaspora Heritage Trail.

Lunch

For a real taste of Bermuda, don’t miss Munchies by the Sea on Water Street. The patio area offers water views, and the menu overflows with local Bermudian cuisine including fish sandwiches, fish nuggets, Johnny bread patties and pies, codfish bites, and so much more.

Afternoon Activity

Set on a hilltop overlooking the spot where English settlers first arrived in Bermuda is Fort St. Catherine. Cross the drawbridge over the dry moat and you’ll find dimly lit tunnels and tall towers overlooking the ocean. Explore the hidden chambers and look for the replicas of England’s crown jewels while you’re at it.

Time For A Treat

At the end of a fun day in St George’s, make time for a frozen treat at Yo Cherry on York Street. Choose from frozen yogurt, handcrafted ice cream, and sorbets. They use locally grown products when available and even offer diabetic, Kosher, and vegan options.

Heading Home

After a fun filled day, consider one last stop on your way out of St George’s at Mullet Bay Playground to burn off any remaining energy. The colourful playground features climbing structures, slides, and even fitness equipment for teens and adults.
