The Chief Executive at the BTA has taken his spot at the top during one of the most turbulent times in the history of global travel. He has returned to the island after nearly thirty years as a destination management professional most recently in the C-Suite at Visit Baltimore. A big personality (with unshakeable and oft-touted allegiance to his Cupmatch team), Jeffers is focused on strengthening connections between Bermuda Tourism and the community, rebuilding the Destination Bermuda brand, and growing visitor arrivals as part of the tourism recovery efforts.
What is your favourite Bermudian tradition? Eating Bermudian delicacies. Pie, codfish and potatoes and codfish cakes. In that order.
Where is the best place for a fish sandwich? I’m an Art Mel’s guy, but I hear I need to try Café Olé.
What’s the most Instagram-worthy place in Bermuda? The whole island is Instagram- worthy, IMO. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
What is the best advice you’ve ever gotten? Treat everyone with the same level of respect that you would want to be treated – regardless of their position or title.
What do you like most about yourself? I’m just as comfortable in “Back-a-town” as I am in Tucker’s Town.
What’s the biggest obstacle you’ve overcome? Self-doubt.
What’s your favourite thing to do on Sunday? Get up early and walk about 4 or 5 miles with the Walking Club of Bermuda; Go to Church; Eat Brunch with family and friends; Watch sports
What’s your favourite beach? That’s like asking who my favourite child is. I love them all equally.
What was your first job ever? My first summer job was stocking shelves at Market Place in Hamilton. My first “real” job was as a busboy in the Newport Room at Southampton Princess.
Who was your favourite teacher as a child? Mrs. Cheralyne Outberbridge and Mrs. Helene Stephenson Honorable mention: Gerard Lespere I. All of them taught me at Central School (now Victor Scott).
What’s your favourite thing at home? My Big Green Egg. A BBQ smoker where I enjoy making all sorts of delicious things.
