Born June 18th, 1958, to Henry “Bill” Dunkley (deceased) and Marye Lee Dunkley, Michael Dunkley was the Premier of Bermuda from May 2014 to July 2017 and the only person to win three different constituencies as a Member of Parliament. Educated at Saltus Grammar School in Bermuda, Trinity College School in Port Hope Ontario, Canada and the University of Richmond, Virginia, Dunkley is widely recognized throughout the island of Bermuda as a very successful and astute businessman in addition to being a respected politician who is extremely dedicated to the island and its people. An avid sportsman, Dunkley is a former premier division soccer and cricket player, winner of the club championship at The Mid Ocean Club on numerous occasions and used to play a good deal of squash, tennis and basketball. Today still enjoys keeping fit and works every day. Michael is a keen family man who is immensely proud of his wife, Pamela and two daughters, Christine and Brooke. They live in Devonshire, Bermuda.

 

1. What is your favourite Bermudian tradition?
Cup Match.

 

2. Where is the best place for a fish sandwich?
Art Mels…it is always so tasty and now has the reputation!

 

3. What is the best advice you’ve ever gotten?
Work hard, stay positive and always stay humble and kind.

 

4. What keeps you up at night?
Thankfully the lack of a good night’s sleep is not an issue for me and if very occasionally I toss and turn I go to my home office and work until I am tired.

 

5. How long have you been in Bermuda?
All my life other than 7 years of education.

 

6. What was your first job ever?
As a teenager working at Dunkley’s, as soon as I was old enough to stay out of trouble I worked the early morning production shift.

 

7. Who was/is the most influential person in your life?
My parents.

 

8. What’s in your wallet right now?
ID, debit card and a small amount of cash.

 

9. Do you ever get island fever?
Not really as I have been blessed to travel enough for business, politics or pleasure. When I do travel I can’t wait to come home!

 

10. What’s your favourite thing in your office?
My home office and the ability to work and also keep in touch with what is going on in the world and live sports; I love all sports and thus I have it set up with three tv’s!

 

11. What’s your favourite thing at home?
We are blessed to live on the South Shore and it is the view of the ocean.

 

12. Loquat or Bermuda banana?
Both in season…

 

13. St George’s or Somerset?
Really…Somerset!

 

14. Cricket or football?
I played both until knee injuries slowed me down so it is a tough choice but by a slight edge I would say cricket.

 

15. What is your guilty pleasure?
You assume just one…but since you ask, my wife’s fresh baked cookies and a glass of milk. Thankfully she puts me on portion control…

 

16. What is your biggest phobia?
A St. George’s Cup Match victory.
