Get ready to add a scary twist to your Halloween treats! These adorable spider cookies are as fun to make as they are to eat, perfect for baking with kids or serving at a Halloween party. Let’s get baking – if you dare!
Ingredients
1 1/4 sticks of butter (10 tablespoons)
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup white sugar
1 tablespoon vanilla
1 egg
2 cups all purpose flour
1/4 tsp salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
2 tablespoons cornflour
Decorations
Large bag of bag Maltesers (or other chocolate of your choice!)
Dark chocolate to melt for legs
candy eyes (or white icing!)
Directions
Pre-heat the oven to 350 F.
Melt butter in the microwave for 40 seconds in a large bowl.
Add the brown and white sugar, egg and vanilla. Mix everything together until smooth with no lumps.
Sift together the flour, salt, baking soda and cornflour over the bowl then fold everything together until combined.
The dough will be soft but thick. If the mixture is still warm: chill it in the fridge or freezer until it is cool enough to roll into balls.
Roll the dough into balls about 2 tablespoons each and place on a lined baking tray.
Press down to flatten them, just slightly.
Bake the cookies for 15 minutes until they’re golden on the outside but still soft in the centre. Remove from the oven.
While the cookies are still warm push two Maltesers into each one. Let them sit on the tray for 10-15 minutes before transferring them to a wire ack to cool completely.
Melt the chocolate then add to a small ziplock bag. Cut a tiny hole in the corner of the bag. Or use a piping bag with a very small tip.
Pipe 4 chocolate legs to each side and stick on candy eyes using a dot of melted chocolate.
If making icing eyes: use white icing to add two dots for the eyes then add a small dots of chocolate inside each eye to make eyeballs.
Let cool and make sure the chocolate is hardened and they’re ready to enjoy!
