For the 13th year in a row, HSBC Bermuda is the lead sponsor of Bermuda’s largest sporting event, bringing not only two days of cricket but also numerous community and celebratory events to the Island.
When it comes to celebrating the Island’s biggest sporting event and holiday, few spread Cup Match fever like HSBC Bermuda.
CEO Steve Banner said “This will be my first Cup Match in Bermuda and I am very much looking forward to the event. My colleagues have been very enthusiastic in building my expectations, and have conveyed how proud they are of our association with an event that brings together the entire community.”
Head of Retail Banking Wealth Management, Renee Bullock-Cann commented “The entire bank gets involved with the Cup Match experience in both the lead up to, and during the event, and there is always some good-natured rivalry between the cricket fans among our staff.”
In order to encourage that camaraderie and community spirit, HSBC will kick off their Cup Match celebrations with the Cup Match motorcade through the City of Hamilton on Friday 26 July. HSBC staff members will line the streets, handing out car flags to Somerset and St. George’s supporters so everybody can “fly their team’s colours with pride,” says Bullock-Cann.
“We also decorate our building, inside and out, on the same day as our motorcade,” she continues. “Internally, lots of flags go up and everyone joins in with the excitement.”
HSBC Bermuda sponsors the entire game including the background costs that go with hosting the two-day cricket match. Further information will be provided in the local press over the coming weeks with respect to the scheduled media coverage.
“On Monday 29 July, we will be giving out snow cones and offering face painting at the Somerset branch On Tuesday 30 July we will be doing these same activities at our St. George’s branch and then on Wednesday 31 July at all three City of Hamilton branches we will be offering the snow cones,” says Erica Sousa, Manager of Sponsorship and Events at the bank.
“It wouldn’t be a truly Bermudian celebration without The Gombeys,” she continues. “At 12.15 pm on the Wednesday prior to Cup Match they will be performing outside our Harbourview branch and will then continue on to Church Street.”
“Our customers and other members of the public really seem to enjoy all the excitement at Cup Match time, and we really value our role in honouring the many important Bermudian traditions that make this Island so special,” continues Sousa.
“HSBC has been involved in this event since 2006 and no one is more excited than us about Cup Match 2019” added Banner
“On behalf of all the staff at HSBC Bermuda I would like to wish everyone the very best Cup Match holiday and, as always, may the best team win!”
